U.S. CENSUS: A PLURALITY NATION
No racial or ethnic group will constitute a majority of children under 18 by the end of this decade, according to U.S. Census Bureau projections released Wednesday. With no single group being a majority, the U.S. will become a “plurality nation,” the Census Bureau reported. The bureau also predicted that by 2043, there will be no single majority group in the country as a whole, as the share of non-Hispanic whites is expected to fall below 50 percent. The Census Bureau backtracked on an earlier projection, reporting that the nation’s population will not hit 400 million until 2051, 12 years later than previously believed.
