Behind a Facade of Suburban Normality, Couple Hid Arsenal

The motive remains elusive, but authorities said the rampage in San Bernardino did not appear to be “an act of spontaneous workplace violence" and they could not rule out terrorism.

Radicalized US Muslim was teased by colleagues about his Islamic beard and had clashed with Jewish co-worker over religion before he and his Pakistani wife killed 14 at San Bernardino holiday party.

The family of San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook  told FBI investigators that he was teased by colleagues about his long Islamic beard after it emerged that he clashed with a Jewish co-worker over religion weeks before he and his wife killed 14 at a holiday party. As the motive for the massacre remains unclear, lawyers for the Farook family said the only possible trigger for his murderous rampage to emerge so far was a series of disparaging comments about his traditional Muslim appearance. However, they said the slain health inspector had 'brushed off' the remarks and they remained at a loss to explain why he mercilessly gunned down 14 people, the majority his former co-workers, on Wednesday. Among the casualties was Farook's colleague Nicholas Thalasinos, 52, pictured bottom right, a Messianic Jew who reportedly got into a heated argument with Farook over Islam two weeks ago.
