Fox’s Ailes hit by sexual harassment lawsuit
Former Fox & Friends anchor Gretchen Carlson claims she was removed from Bill O’Reilly’s show and given a pay cut because she would not sleep with the Fox network’s chairman Roger Ailes. The suit, filed in a New Jersey court, claims Ailes “sabotaged her career because she refused his sexual advances and [she] complained about severe and pervasive sexual harassment.” As part of Ailes’ retaliation, her lawsuit claims, Carlson received diminishing assignments. She accuses Ailes of “ostracizing, marginalizing and shunning” her before ultimately firing her from the network on 23 June.
Cameron out, May in
The UK’s Conservative party leadership race has narrowed to just one candidate, Theresa May, after rival Andrea Leadsom unexpectedly dropped out on Monday. Leadsom’s exit came after she was forced to apologize to May for suggesting she, as a mother, would be a better leader than her childless rival. Meanwhile a cross section of UK politicians are pushing an idea that a federal-style union between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland could replace the United Kingdom.
May will take over from David Cameron as British prime minister on Wednesday. May, who has served as home secretary for six years, is considered a professional, measured politician. Though she campaigned for Britain to remain in the EU in the recent referendum, May has indicated she will begin the process of extracting the UK from the continent next year. May will be Britain’s second female prime minister and the first in 26 years.

Dallas gunman’s bomb arsenal investigated
Authorities in Dallas are looking into how gunman Micah Johnson was able to assemble a large quantity of bomb-making equipment at his suburban Mesquite home that he shared with his mother, Delphene. Asked how it was possible that his family could “not know about him stockpiling weapons”, Dallas police chief David Brown said: “That’s my question.” Dallas authorities also said on Monday that an additional two officers were wounded in Johnson’s assault. Meanwhile, thousands of Texans paid tribute to the five slain officers at a candlelit vigil in Dallas on Monday night, ahead of Barack Obama’s visit. Both Obama and George W Bush will speak at a memorial service on Tuesday.
