Sicknick (inset) will lie in the Capitol rotunda overnight Tuesday and for some of Wednesday while lawmakers and fellow officers pay their respects. An honor guard carried the urn and a folded American flag up the steps of the Capitol in a procession Tuesday night (bottom right). Sicknick died of injuries he sustained while trying to defend the US Capitol during the attempted coup of January 6. The 42-year-old police officer was pepper-sprayed and hit in the head by violent rioters.
