The president took a moment of silence in front of the urn carrying the cremated remains of the fallen officer Brian Sicknick, holding his hand to his heart (left). House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (top right) also paid tribute to the fallen cop. Sicknick (inset) will lie in the Capitol rotunda overnight Tuesday and for some of Wednesday while lawmakers and fellow officers pay their respects. An honor guard carried the urn and a folded American flag up the steps of the Capitol in a procession Tuesday night (bottom right). Sicknick died of injuries he sustained while trying to defend the US Capitol during the attempted coup of January 6. The 42-year-old police officer was pepper-sprayed and hit in the head by violent rioters.
